Metropolitan Holdings Basic Development Plan
Metropolitan Holdings, Ltd. has filed a basic development plan for land along Carriage Trails Parkway west of State Route 201. Council will review the proposal before it moves forward.
Urban Tree Grant replanting plan
The city plans to solicit bids for tree planting under an urban tree grant, adding greenery to public spaces.
City bond rating upgraded
S&P visited in person for the first time ever and reaffirmed the city's AA-minus bond rating while upgrading the water bond rating from A-plus to AA-minus. That means lower borrowing costs for future city projects.
Proposed Memorial Car Show and Community Outreach
The commission discussed a proposal from the Invitavet Foundation to host an annual car show at the veterans memorial on June 12. Members reviewed potential logistics, parking, and permit requirements.
Military and Veterans Commission annual update
The commission is at full membership for the first time in a while and has a busy calendar: Veterans Day ceremony November 11 with the Wright-Patterson base commander speaking, a returning service member honored in the Christmas parade, a Young Marine sponsored to attend Pearl Harbor commemorations, and a veterans car show planned for June 2027.
Mosaic mural at Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken
The public mural planned for Lee's Chicken on Chambersburg Road lost its student artist, so the design firm MSA will now work directly with the restaurant owner and schools to develop a Wayne athletics concept. The commission will review the final design before it's installed.
Gingerbread walk public art proposal
Resident Jay Hartman proposed rotating art displays in city buildings, churches, and businesses — possibly partnering with the Chamber of Commerce. The commission voted to have him meet with Chamber head Mason Hutton and return with a plan.
2026 Board-sponsored Recreation Programs
The aquatic center has topped 27,000 visits, food truck rallies are pulling 300+ patrons, and a slate of free family events — the Heritage picnic, Environmental Fest, and concerts — runs through August.
Tree work at Cloud and Community Parks
A $100,000 federal grant will fund new large and medium street trees, mostly along Old Troy Pike where Bradford pears were removed, with bids this fall and planting next spring. Future Brant Pike road improvements mean trees there are being deferred to avoid planting then removing them.
Drone policy for parks
Richard Moore proposed requiring drone permits in parks, entrance signage, and banning drones over crowds of 30 or more — the board endorsed it for council consideration.
Temporary structures permits
Bounce houses, big tents and dunk tanks would need a permit 30 days ahead with $1 million liability insurance; 10x10 tents stay free and easy.
Public Works Facility/City Hall Renovation Furnishings
Up to $350,000 for furniture and equipment at the new Public Works Facility and renovated City Hall, using last year's competitively bid pricing to avoid rebidding and lock in costs before expected price hikes.
Grant writer contract with Hicks Partners LLC
The city wants to keep paying a Columbus firm about $78,000 a year to find and write grants — money that has brought in $750,000 so far, with more pending. Council agreed it's cheaper than hiring a full-time staffer.
City code updates (Supplement 26 and traffic/general offenses amendments)
Routine housekeeping that keeps the city code current with state law changes — one quarterly supplement and one annual update to traffic and criminal code sections.
